Villa Appalaccia is an Italian-inspired winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The smaller, more intimate setting makes for a relaxed atmosphere. You could easily spend an afternoon here walking the gardens, playing bocce ball, and enjoying wine and cheese out on the patio. We stopped in to see their wine selections and stayed a while to play on the bocce ball court. Their wood-fired brick oven and Italian music garden is open on certain dates for live music and pizzas by Dogtown Pizza. They have special tasting events where guests can experience diverse wines, cheeses, and learn about pairing wines with various foods.

Villa Appalaccia is only one mile from Chateau Morrisette and I would definitely recommend visiting both while you're out there. Their wine offerings are vastly different and allow you the opportunity to sample the wide variety of wines that can be made right here in southwest Virginia. The Tuscan country house atmosphere at Villa Appalaccia is like entering a whole other world and has an entirely different feel than Chateau Morrisette. Check in with them and ask about upcoming special events, tastings, and brick oven pizza nights.

Directions:

• Take Hwy 100 South (Wysor Hwy.) to the stop sign at Hwy 221 North (Floyd Pike)
• Turn left onto Hwy 221 North (Floyd Pike), travel 21.4 miles
• Turn right onto 726 (Canning Factory Rd.), take quick right at fork to remain on 726
• 726 is now Black Ridge Rd. Follow the grape symbol winery tour sign, travel 7.1 miles
• At the stop sign turn left onto the Blue Ridge Parkway
• Take the first right onto 720 (Rock Castle Gorge Rd.) This is a gravel road.
• Villa Appalaccia Winery drive is approximately 0.5 mile on the right.
• From Chateau Morrisette:
• Turn left out of Chateau Morrisette and proceed to the stop sign
• Turn left onto the Blue Ridge Parkway
• Take the first right onto 720 (Rock Castle Gorge Rd.) This is a gravel road.
• Villa Appalaccia Winery drive is approximately 0.5 mile on the right.
